Costco Member Benefit

Costco offers s “Concierge Two Plus Two Warranty” to their members for major appliance purchases. This includes refrigerators above 10 cu. ft., freezers, ranges, cooktops, over-the-range microwaves, dishwashers, washers and dryers. Costco extends the manufacturer’s warranty to two years from the date of purchase. As a result you get the one year manufacturer warranty, plus a second year warranty from Costco.

Credit Card Member Benefit

Several credit card companies offer “Extended Warranty Protection” as a card member benefit. Use their credit card to buy the appliance. As a result, they will extend the time period of the U.S. manufacturer’s warranty.

For example, Chase Sapphire Rewards offers an extra one year warranty (on all eligible warranties of 3 years or less) when you use your card to purchase the appliance. Their coverage kicks in after all other warranties end.

Stack Warranties

You can even stack these warranties together. For instance, use your Chase Sapphire Rewards credit card, together with your Costco membership, to buy the appliance. This gives you a total of three years of warranty coverage.

  • Manufacturer = 1st year
  • Costco = 2nd year
  • Chase = 3rd year

Additionally, there can be other ways to extend the warranty on your next purchase. Do some research on your own to see if other retailers offer them. Also, consult your credit card company’s member benefits to see what they have. You can sign up for a new Chase Sapphire Preferred card here. They offer extra warranty time on many items you buy with their card.
