Daily Cleaning Routine - The Daily DIY

Why a Daily Cleaning Routine Is Best

Do you dread the weekends because you know you’ll have to spend at least one entire day cleaning? Or are you too busy on the weekends and can’t ever seem to stay on top of cleaning your home? We all know that cleaning helps to keep you and your family healthy. But, believe it or not, how clean, or not so clean, you keep your home can also affect your mental health. An easy tip to stay on top of your chores is to adopt a daily cleaning routine.

The Psychology Of a Clean House

According to verywellmind.com, “for some people the simple sight of a clean and organized home can help them unwind and de-stress even after an overwhelming day”. Not only that, clutter can lead to depression, decreased focus, and tension. Cleaning your home can also help you gain a bit of control over your environment, as well as lift your mood.

Don’t Get Overwhelmed

We all know that keeping a clean home helps to stop the spread of germs. It also contributes to good indoor air quality, which is especially helpful for those with allergies. And, of course to keep pests out of your home.

If you find you cannot keep up with your cleaning and are feeling overwhelmed, try to break the tasks into smaller pieces. Do just one or two chores per day and you’ll soon find that you have time in your schedule to do other things that need your attention. 5 Tips To Clean Your Home Fast can also help you destress about cleaning.

How It Works

Set up a schedule for Monday through Saturday with just one, or two, chores assigned to each day. Then by the time the weekend comes, you won’t have much to clean and can enjoy your free time. For example:

  • Monday – vacuum, sweep, and mop
  • Tuesday – dust furniture, declutter living spaces
  • Wednesday – clean kitchen
  • Thursday – clean bathrooms, vacuum again
  • Friday – wash bed linens, declutter bedrooms
  • Saturday – clean TVs and mirrors

This is a small sample of my personal daily cleaning routine, which you can download for free here. I’ve been using this for over a year now and it makes cleaning so much easier. And, I no longer dread the all day cleaning marathons I used to have to do on the weekends. I’ve also included my monthly/quarterly cleaning list as well. Which are the chores that don’t have to be done quite as often, but are still important.
