How To Save Big On Your Next Paint Project
Here is a great home improvement money saver for you! This is perhaps one of my most favorite money saving tips for home improvement. Once you discover just how easy it is to save big money on your next paint project, you’ll soon be buying all of it this way.
Can we all agree that nothing beats a fresh coat of paint on the walls to make a room look new again? Maybe you like to repaint your rooms often. Or maybe it’s been awhile and your home is ready for a facelift. Either way, it’s easy to take a weekend and repaint a room or two in your home. Most times painting can be a pretty inexpensive way to brighten up a room and make it fresh. But how about making the cost of a new coat of paint even better?
What Is It All About?
Most home improvement stores have a reduced paint shelf. Some call it “oops paint”, or “mistint paint”. It consists of paint that either a customer has returned, the container got dented or damaged, or perhaps it got mistinted in the machine. They drastically reduce the price on these paints to clear them out. Be sure to go early in the week, as you’re likely to find the biggest selection of colors and finishes. Due to the fact that the stores were busy with homeowners purchasing, and returning, or mistinting, paint all weekend long.
Oops Paint At Home Depot
How Much Can You Save?
Keep in mind that prices will vary. I can tell you that at a Midwest Home Depot location, they sell their “oops paint” for $9 a gallon, $2 a quart, 50 cents for the sample size, and $20 for a five gallon bucket. All of their paints are included in these prices. Even the Behr Marquee Paint & Primer In One that retails for almost $50 per gallon. This results in a savings of between 65%-85% alone on the gallon sizes, depending on which brand/type that you can score.
What Types Of Paint Can You Find?
You can find flats, eggshells, semi-glosses, chalk paints, cabinet paints, stains, concrete paints, primers, ceiling paints, exterior paints, etc, and in may colors and hues. You can often find more than one gallon of the same color, which is perfect if you have a large room to paint. Additionally, you may even find the two or three gallons (or more) in similar shades. In this case, you can take an empty five gallon bucket and mix them all together to paint that large space or hallway. While doing this, be sure you mix and match in the same paint finish, for example use all eggshell, or all flat, or whatever your project calls for. You might also find a great color in a quart size to add an accent wall or makeover a piece of furniture. The possibilities are endless.
Make it a habit to check out the discounted paint section each time you are in your nearest store. Mondays offer the biggest selection due to the stores being busy over the weekend. You might just find a gallon or two that you can use to make it an easy way to save money on your next paint project. And check out my tips for painting your room fast and my pick for the Best Paintbrush for Easy Cutting In.
