How To Install New Cabinet Pulls
Installing new cabinet hardware is a quick and cheap way to update your kitchen. If you’re changing out existing hardware for the same size, then there’s nothing more you need to do. But, you may have a single knob now and want to change it to a pull. Or you have brand new cabinets and need to install new hardware. Either way, here is a quick tutorial for how to install new cabinet pulls where you need to drill new holes.
I recently renovated my kitchen and put in new cabinets from Lily Ann Cabinets. I decided to go with some simple and modern cabinet pulls I found on Amazon. If you can use a drill, then you too can install these cabinet pulls.
Use a Jig Or Template
If possible, I’d suggest using a jig to install your new cabinet hardware. Since not all cabinet pulls are the same size, a jig offers different placement to help. The one I used came from Amazon and worked pretty good. The template jig allows you to set it up once and tighten it. Then use it over and over on each cabinet door or drawer without having to measure. For hardware that needs two or more holes drilled, you are to set the jig for each hole and be good to go.
I did notice on mine, however, that using both holes at the same time caused the cabinet pull to be slightly off. I ended up using just one hole on the jig to get my starting point. Then I used a level and a ruler to measure to find the precise point to drill for the second hole. This still saved me a lot of time only having to set the jig once and using it over and over again for each door and drawer to find the starting point.
Placement Of Your Cabinet Hardware
Cabinet Doors
For handles/pulls, use the rail of the cabinet door as your guide. Line one end of the handle up against the top of the bottom rail. Center the handle in the stile.
For knobs, also install them along the top of the bottom cabinet rail, as well as center them in the stile.

Drawers
Center the knobs or pulls in the middle of the drawer. Center it both horizontal and vertical. For deep drawers you can choose to install them near the top of the drawer (vertically). Center them horizontally.
Installation
Once you have your jig set to the correct position, use your drill to drill holes in to your cabinet doors and drawers. Begin drilling from the front of the door or drawer.
Use loctite on each screw to keep them from coming loose over time with use.
And that’s all there is to it. Installing new cabinet hardware is a great way to make your kitchen more modern. The cost of them is minimal and they can really change the look of your room.
